I have walked and photographed Sussex for a good few years now and I cannot remember such a a prolonged period of flooding through the Arun valley, with no likelihood of the water receding anytime soon. The quantity of rainfall that we are experiencing at present was brought home to me over the weekend. I visited Burpham on Friday morning and was delighted to find a pool of flood water beautifully reflecting a line of trees. With a wonderful procession of clouds providing a colourful backdrop it was enough to get me out of bed early on Sunday morning to see what the dawn would bring. Only 48 hours later the only way I would have been able to reproduce the image would have been from a boat.
As I am about to embark on a three year project with the RSPB, based around the Arun and Rother rivers, I thought I would process these images for a presentation on Thursday. I will post details about the project soon.
These first two images were from Friday morning.
This is what greeted me on Sunday morning.
